I talked with a nutritionist at the local farmer's market this weekend. She reminded me of one of my aunts. After the revelation that most of my vegetable and fruit intake consists of starches (potatoes, bananas, corn, peas — did you know that peas are starchy?), I'm trying to improve my diet by adding more "color" and reduce my allergies by eating more foods with Omega-3 fatty acids. As of day 1.5, it hasn't done a thing for my allergies, but it has given me a lot of gas. Not that I expected much other than gas right away.
This week's new munchies consist of bee pollen (mildly bitter but oddly tasty), raw garlic cloves (one per day is plenty for me — feel the burn!), grape tomatoes (not bad when microwaved), pluots (surprisingly good), something green that starts with "p" and used to be considered a weed (tastes mildly lemony; I think I recognize it from hoeing fields in high school), and starting this evening, cod liver oil (gel pills that smell like fish). I remember my grandfather taking cod liver oil religiously when we would visit him in New Brunswick. Turns out it's a major source of Omega-3. It's always a bit embarrassing when folk remedies turn out to be right. I also picked up some bread and cereal with flax seeds (more Omega-3), but I'll be finishing up my current loaves and boxes before starting on those guys.
So I'm at least attempting to eat healthy. We'll see how long it lasts. I'm going to try holding off on the Claritin for a few days to see if these changes actually help or not.
Providing the sneezing doesn't drive me crazy first.
Da man is back! Whatever you do, don't download this song! Absolutely pitiful!
I got a piano yesterday. It's a Story & Clark upright grand, and it appears to be from 1906, according to this site. :-)
I gave it a thorough vacuuming today (except for the back, which I can't reach. The piano doesn't roll well on my carpet). I have a feeling I destroyed ecosystems intact since its building.
Check out that damper system in the fourth photo! Why mute the strings when you can mute the hammers?
