Spam Almighty

I just got rid of twelve blog comment spams. Do any of you other bloggers know how to block these jerks? I'm not all that interested in advertising casinos and online gaming.

Jon, this is what you do. Turn on comment notification for your blog, underneath your preferences. THEN you will get an e-mail to you everytime your blog gets a comment. At the bottom of each e-mail will be the opportunity to "Despam" a particular blog comment in case its spam.

clicking on that link will take you to MT Blacklist, which is what I use to cut down on blog spam. You'll need to login with your username and password. Then, click "Go forth now and do my bidding" in MT blacklist, and it'll delete that comment from you blog.

THEN, add the urls found in that comment to the blacklist.

MAKE SURE you don't accidentally block domains like gmail.com or yahoo.com (these usually appear because spammers might have those domains for their e-mail addresses). Just block the domains they're advertising for.

This will help keep the blacklist current.

Another problem is that for the last week or so, Jay Allen who maintains the MT Blacklist master spam list has been out of town, so I haven't been able to keep the spam lists up to date on every terrablogs site. I'm really really sorry 'bout this, and will do my best to step it up a notch for you guys!

Thanks, Josiah. I found out about the spam comments from an inbox full of epiphany notifications. I didn't notice the anti-spam features of the e-mail, though. That will be VERY helpful if it happens again!
